A warm cup of comfort

I don't know about you..... but I have a weakness for Caribou's Mint Condition Mocha Coffee. I know that it is horrible for me..... especially because I don't do well with dairy. The amount of sugar brings on a wave of pain for my feet and joints. Needless to say I still find myself in the drive through lane ordering my cup of warm comfort. It is a slippery slope for me. Once I go, I find myself there multiple times per week. They are so expensive for what I get. My medium coffee costs $5.37. If I go three times in a week that is close to $20.00 after tips. HOLY COW!!  I have been forced to look for an alternative, that is not only healthier, but also more cost effective for me. So here is what I came up with............ a cup of creamy warm chocolate goodness. 


This cup of goodness is created with coconut oil, honey, tea, chocolate chips and peppermint.


Heat approximately 10 ounces of water and place tea bag in the HOT mug and steep for 3-5 minutes. While tea is steeping put the rest of the ingredients into your blender. Once tea is done, pour tea into blender. Blend on high for approximately 30 sec (or to your liking).  ENJOY!

If you do not have a blender you can also use a shaker bottle. This is what I use for work. After shaking, open very slowly and carefully. When contents are hot.... it may spray out. 

Benefits of coconut oil: 

  • helps improve brain health
  • helps boost your metabolism
  • helps improve digestion
  • helps with constipation 
  • helps boost immune system
  • helps stablize blood sugar and cholesterol

You can change up the ingredients to your liking. Fresh brewed coffee can be used in place of tea. You could also use another flavor of tea if you have a favorite. Or.... make a larger batch and use a combo of both tea and coffee. 

Many people use coffee to help move their bowels (or in other words poop). You may need to increase or decrease the coconut oil to get your desired effect. Coconut oil is great for constipation! 

I do not watch my calorie or fat intake, but do watch my sugar intake. Decreasing my sugar is huge for decreasing my symptoms of multiple sclerosis. This recipe slashes my sugar intake from 66g in my Caribou down to 20g in my creation.
